Beautiful PEI

We allowed ourselves 3 days to discover beautiful PEI.  As many of you may already know, that is not enough time.  We will definitely have to come back again.  We arrived in PEI in a downpour and it continued to rain all day and all night.  What do you do when its raining?  Pretty much the same as if it wasn't...go and explore anyway, put your rain gear on and have fun.  We went to Confederation Centre and were surprised to run into friends from Nanaimo.  Neither of us knew the other was here.  Kind of fun.  Then we decided to go see the Anne of Green Gables play that night since it was raining anyway.  If you haven't seen the play in Charlottetown, it is a must.  It is so well done.

Our Nanaimo friends in Charlottetown!

Having fun in the rain

The next day it dried up so we went looking for lighthouses and beaches.

The waves at Shaw's Beach.  Lots of sand dunes and waves.

The lighthouse at Covehead Bay.

We had lunch at North Rustico and found this eagle nest with an eaglet.  Pretty cool.

At North Rustico Harbour we found this lighthouse.

Then we made our way to Cavendish and since we saw the Anne play the night before we thought we should stop at the Anne of Green Gables house.

On our last day in PEI we saw two more lighthouse.  The first was at Point Prim which is the oldest lighthouse on PEI and the only round one made of bricks here.

On our way from Point Prim, there were lots of lupins along the roadside.  You can find these lupins along the roadside in PEI and NB.

Then we decided to back track a bit and go to Victoria By The Sea for one more lighthouse before calling it a day.

So many beautiful places here.

I wish we had more time here but we are off to Nova Scotia tomorrow.

Until next time ...

New Brunswick

While in NB, we stayed with my cousins in the Lower Millstream and had a weekend camping at Stonehurst in Moncton.

Part of the Bay of Fundy trail.

Our parking spot at my cousins looking out towards the farm where my cousins lived growing up and where I spent many summers.

St. Martins is a great place to come and explore.

In Sussex, we saw lots of murals but took these for my hockey-loving family members.

While in Moncton, we are staying at Stonehurst which isn't far from the famous Magnetic Hill.  We stopped at their wrarfside which just opened again a month ago.  It was a great place to stop.  They have a lot of neat things happening there.

Then we went off to the famous Hopewell Rocks.

This is the beach where you will find the famous Rocks.  Lots of red and mud along the beach line.  I warned Bruce about the mud but I don't think he heard me.

The rock behind me is perched between two larger rock formations.

I'm standing here beside one of the flowerpot formations.

Here is Lover's Arch and the Bear.

This is the home I grew up in.  They have done some nice improvements over the years.  And the trees are huge compared to what they were when I grew up there.

I agree with this sign.  Riverview was a great place to grow up.

Got to spend the afternoon visiting with the parents of high school friends who were like mom and dad to me.  So nice to connect with them and got to see their daughter, my friend in the evening as well.  It was a great way to end our visit in Riverview.

It rained all night and is still raining but we are off to PEI now.  Looking forward to visiting with another school friend while we are there.

Until next time ...

From Belleville, Ontario through Quebec and onto New Brunswick

On the road again... as we left Belleville we headed towards another province and saw lots of sights along the way.  We opted to take a lot of the country roads instead of the busy highway.  You see a lot more by taking the country roads ... we went through some areas with amazing, mega homes.  I think they must have been celebrity homes.

We ran into a little trouble around Sorel-Tracy but fortunately we also ran into some very nice people along the way who also told us where we could camp for the night.  The next day we were off again.  As we headed towards NB, we were on busier highways and the wind was strong.  We were hoping to get to the Lower Millstream but we decided to stop about 3 hours before our destination.  We stopped in Woodstock, New Brunswick and boondocked in the Walmart parking lot.  It was a good decision to stop and it was a good place to stop.

The lupins were just outside Woodstock.

Yeah, we made it to NB

Came across this double single lane bridge with a light regulating the traffic.

Interesting stacked wood pile.

It was great to finally arrive in the Lower Millstream and be with family again.

Bruce up a tree doing a bit of gardening.

The home my mom grew up with her family.

The home and farm that I came to visit with my cousins for many years.  I've been reliving a lot of family memories.  The Lower Millstream is a country area not far from Sussex, New Brunswick.

Until next time...

On to Parry Sound and then Belleville

In Parry Sound, we had a tour of the town by a friend (Karin) who grew up in Parry Sound.  She had something to share almost at every corner.  She was in the process of moving so she graciously offered her old apartment (since she has it to the end of the month) for us to park and use the kitchen and washroom facilities while we were there.

One of the spots here we explored was the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame.  Karin's brother was also inducted into the hall of fame as a builder.  It was great to be there with her.

The famous goal

This was a mural on a corner store close to where we were staying

The snowbirds that night

Following the snowbirds we went to Don Cherry's for dinner.  Yummm!

That day the snowbirds were doing a show so we found it difficult to go anywhere by car so we went by foot and caught sight of the snowbirds.  Great show.  We finished our day at Don Cherry's.

The next day, we saw our cousins Pat and Kathy.  Great to see them and catch up.  This trip has been all about catching up with family friends.

Next stop is Belleville where we will see Aunt Beulah and more cousins.  It's been five years since we've been here.  Five years ago we were here to see cousin Jen and John being married.  This year, we met their two children - two new cousins.  We are so blessed.

We worshipped at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church this morning in Belleville.

Loved this tapestry leading to their hall.

Tomorrow we head out on the road again and we will be heading to the Lower Millstream, NB to visit more cousins.  It will take a couple of days to get through the rest of Ontario, Quebec, and then into NB.  It's been about a month of travelling so far but we are getting there.

It's Father's Day today and we are far away in distance from our kids and grandkids but close in heart and thought.

Until next time ...

Thunder Bay to Wawa

I have a good friend who reminds me its not the destination but the journey that is important.  We were reminded of that again as we had to wait in Thunder Bay to see about our engine light.  It meant staying longer in Thunder Bay... a night at Fort William in their RV park and we got to go to the Observatory and heard a great lecture about planets and got to hold some meteorites (very cool), and we got to attend the church Bruce and his family attended.  They had a pot luck picnic after the church service which was great fun.

Our last night in Thunder Bay was spent in a car lot boon docking as we waiting for our appointment the next morning to see about our emergency engine light.  It turned out that we could continue our journey and it can wait until we get back home - yeah!

So off we go again.  We travelled through a lot of remote areas and I really wondered if we would find a campsite for tonight.  I am thankful that we are tucked away in a nice site with wifi, washrooms, and a pool.  Someone is definitely looking after us.

And we had another bear sighting.  This time its an Ontario black bear.

This guy crossed the road in front of us but before we could get the camera turned on he was already down on the other side.

So many beautiful spots around Lake Superior

This seemed like a good spot to stop for lunch.

Along the roadside there were a lot of red rock formation.

Until next time ...
